Neo-Classicism, Romanticism, Realism, Impressionism
(late 18th and 19th c.)
The pictures on exhibit in this room come from various European countries and are painted in various styles, ranging from English Neo-Clacissism and Proto-Romanticism (Wilson, Morland) to Romanticism, Realism and Impressionism. Constable freed himself from the narrative approach and with his light and direct brush may be considered one of the forerunners of Impressionism. Bonington had a great influence on Delacroix, the main representative of Romanticism in France.
