St Paul the Apostle, a Jew born in Tarsus under the name of Saul, at first persecuted Christians until he was blinded by a great flash of light from Heaven, the Lord's sign that converted him. He regained his sight in Damascus when Ananias laid his hands on his eyes and, in praise of the Lord, he changed his name to Paul and began spreading Christianity. He is portrayed on his mission to Asia Minor, preaching in Lystra.
