The white text of the contract is the optical centre of the painting where the basic axes of the composition intersect and where the participants are joined by their hands, even though their gazes drift almost indifferently in various directions.

Despite the plain and somewhat rigid arrangement of the figures, the lines and colour tones are done in a surprisingly refined manner.
