High Renaissence and Mannerism in Italy
(16th c.)
In about 1500, early Renaissance in Italy developed into the phase known as High Renaissance (to 1520/27). Some of the distinguishing marks are idealization, perfection of proportion and symmetry, a more logical positioning of figures in space, chromatic harmony, and a more consequent understanding of perspective. In the vein of the Florentine-Rome school of painting drawing and form dominated over colour. In the Venetian school colour prevailed.
