Descent Limbo (Harrowing of Hell)

The central part of the triptych shows "Anastasis", the risen Christ descending into Hell. In the background are fires in which devils are tormenting the souls of the dead. The victorious full-sized figure of Christ dominates the scene. His naked, bony and muscular body bearing wounds is clad in a loin-cloth and a rich mantle fastened with a pectoral, decorated with pearls.
