The so-called "semantic perspective" is applied: the size of the figures depends on their importance in the painting, rather than their real proportions. The faces are idealized in Giotto's tradition, while Christ and St Clare are portrayed with more liberty and individualisation. The forms are stiff, plastic and compact in the spirit of Florentine quattrocento.
