Late Gothic and Earli Renaissence
Late Gothic and Earli Renaissence in Italy and The North
(14th and 15th c.)
At the turn of the 14th c. urban culture began to have a greater influence on art. Details of life in this world were introduced in the late Gothic period and the human form was treated with greater human understanding. New bourgeois subjects were introduced, portraits and landscapes. Gold coloured backgrounds were replaced by stylized natural elements, the human figure was not only more realistic but also expressed feeling.
