Bottle with a Stopper
Venice; 2nd half 16th c.
Coloured glass continued to be produced in Murano as well as the new cristallo. Their colours are less intensive than the late Gothic styles as this flask shows. The combination of the relief patterning provided by the mould and the decorative applications are an early sign of the coming of Mannerism. The Murano Glass Museum has a number of exhibits like this one from the same period.
