Guillaume Dupré
Guillaume Dupré's medals are the peak of the French tradition of portrait medals. Thanks to his skill in designing the models in wax and casting them in bronze, Dupré managed to create faithful portraits in low relief. After the assassination of his patron King Henry IV he was the target of increasing hostility towards Protestants. For this reason Queen Marie de' Medici advised him to go to Italy, where he made a range of portrait medals of Italian rulers.
