Based on the traditions of international Gothic more than on the coming influence of the Renaissance which was to mark the second period of painted enamel from Limoges, Pierre Courteys' multicoloured paintings in enamel are characterized by strong and lustrous colours, especially turquoise and aubergine, with gilded details shaped like stars modeled on those in illuminated manuscripts.
