Head of Christ
England; 12th c.
The head somewhat resembles the wooden head of Christ from a Crucifix from South Cerney in the county of Gloucester in England, dating from the 2nd quarter of the 12th c. The almost identical carving of the hair and beard, the strongly accentuated bones, on the ascetic face, and the prominent high eye arches indicate that they were made around the same period.
