Snuff-Bottle
China; Qing dynastsy; 19th c.
The rounded body of the small bottle is made of several colours of opaque red glass (Chinese liuli). The decoration of lotus branches and flowers was got by polishing. The thick walls of the snuff-bottle were achieved by placing one layer of coloured glass over another, and decorative patterns were carved into them as if they were made of jade or some other semi-precious stone.
