Bottle
Syria; 2nd c. AD
The bottle was produced by the new blow-pipe technique which was discovered in Syria in the 1st c. BC. It marked a turning-point in the craft and the use of a blow-pipe has remained largely unchanged until today. As a result an extraordinary wealth of shapes became feasible for all kinds of purposes and the mass production of glassware can be dated from that time. The basic circular shape could now be used for a rich variety of glasses, bottles and other vessels.
