Woman in a Street
1881
Norbert Goeneutte
The French painter Norbert Goeneutte often painted scenes from the Paris life of his time. He never attained the fame of his friends Manet, Renoir, Degas, Pissarro but he created a valuable and consistent opus. His street scenes show an optical realism but his treatment of light is impressionistic. The life of Boulevard de Clichy, shown on this painting, was one of his favourite subjects.
