Cup and Saucer
Venice; 2nd half 18th c.
This kind of patterning known as latticino began to be used in the 16th c. and continued right through the 17th and 18th, when red colour was also used as here on the rims.
The netted pattern is evenly distributed all over both surfaces and is a specially valued form of Venetian glass decoration found on a large number of items even, as here, on these small pieces which have a special use. In the Murano Glass Museum many items of the same kind are found.
