The Anastasis (Resurrection) was a depiction common in Byzantine art and referred to the resurrection of the Old Testament saints during the Harrowing of Hell. It was established after the iconoclastic movement in Byzantium. Its source was in the Apocrypha in the writings of Nicodemus and it was widespread in Kiev.
