Virgin and Child
Workshop Duccio di Buoninsegna
early 14th c.;
This Virgin is in the lyrical Gothic vein and shown as pretty and young while Christ is a playful Child, who no longer gives His blessing stiffly, like a young king, but is playing with His mother's scarf. It probably came from the Duccio workshop in Siena at the beginning of the 14th c. and the painter took his model from the similar Virgin and Child painting in Siena.
