Bottle in the Shape of a Horse
Venice; mid-16th c.
The bottle is a good example of the fanciful products of the Murano glass makers, always allured by new shapes and forms which sometimes even conceal the true use. In this way a whole series of amusing oil-lamps, navicula and bottles were made which could be used for imaginative home decorations or for every day use or on special occasions. The Murano Glass Museum possesses an oil-lamp in the shape of a horse from the same time.
