Claude Michel, known as Clodion
(Nancy, 1738 - Paris, 1814)
The Renaissance reintroduced Dionysian rites as a frequent sculptural subject. Clodion proved to be a noteworthy successor of F. Duquesnoy (1594-1643), the sculptor of similar reliefs in the 17th c. which were considered models by later sculptors.
