Panel Showing the Expulsion from Paradise
Christof Angermair
Adam and Eve are shown centrally moving forwards. Adam's sense of shame is portrayed by his hands covering his face, while Eve looks sorrowfully back towards the Garden of Eden. An angel with a fiery sword floats above them fiercely pointing with his left hand their way out of the Garden.
In the background bushes and grass are suggested. The flat surfaces of the bodies reflect the light and in contrast with the more absorbent background allow a fine play of brightness and shadow which highlights the deep emotion of the figures. Shame and repentance are expressed by expression and look, everything is subordinated to it from the muted background to the strong, smooth and taut muscles of the bodies.
