Armchair
Italy (Tuscany?); end 16th c.
These armchairs are perfect examples of a type of Italian furniture which gained its particular form and decoration in the 16th c. They differ from simple cinquecento chairs in decorative detail (arms, gold-stamped leather). A larger number were produced from the end of the 16th c. Other European countries adopted this type of armchair towards the end of the 16th and in the 17th c.
