Casket
France; 15th c.?
In a good state of preservation, one corner of the lid slightly chipped. Made of five panels and a flat top. Fixed together with newer bronze strengthening. The edges of the panels are profiled to fit together better making a wood base unnecessary. On the lid there are two holes, probably from some old fitment.
The combination of worldly and sacral scenes is very interesting and allows us to compare the Mimara casket with the famous casket of Gotha today in the private Monheim collection in Aachen. The Mimara casket is different in size from the Gotha/Monheim casket but both subject and arrangement of scenes are similar.
