The long, fine-drawn faces of an earlier period are here replaced by round, smiling, slightly dull looking faces. A forced nobility and a superficial Mannerist approach are seen in the rather stiff movements of the figures and the folds of their clothing which impede movement.

The scenes are wider than they are high and are shown beneath a row of three arches with a narrow strip of leafy foliage above them. The arches of the frieze are correct but not as precise as in some earlier carvings.

All these characteristics show this diptych to have some similarities with the Salting diptych in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and allow us to date it to the last quarter of the 14th c.
