Diphilos / Youth
Greece; 1st c. AD
The boy is carrying the remains of something on his back. If we compare this statue to another similar one in the British Museum then it is certain that he was carrying a pouch with sticks for a game similar to today's cricket.
The artist incised his name on the back of the base, which means the figure was made in the workshop of the famous artist Diphilos who worked in the first decades of the 1st c. in Mirna, a seaside town in the Greek province Eolia.
