His wrinkled muzzle, slightly closed nostrils, bulging eyes and emphasized eyebrows intensify the impression of an angry disturbed predatory beast. The tail is S-shaped, the long cylindrical body and rounded ears all characterize the early Greek lions of the Lakonian type, while the expressiveness and the muzzle suggest the Ionic type.
