Pin with Disc
Persia; Laristan; 8th-7th c. BC
The top of the pin was hammered into a disc and characteristically ornamented. In the middle of the disc there is a lion's head, edged with a wide dotted ribbon, while the outer rim is decorated with a row of pomegranates and leaves. Besides a lion's head, the centre of this type of pin is sometimes decorated with the head of Ashi - the fertility goddess whose symbols are a lion and pomegranates.
