Bearer
Bearer
Egypt; Middle Kingdom; 12th dynasty; 2000-1640 BC
The typical position for a carrier of a litter or a water bearer. He is wearing a traditional apron tied round the waist and is one of a whole series of figures which at the end of the first intermediate period, and especially at the time of the Middle Kingdom, replaced the relief cycles and clay figures that were common in the Old Kingdom. Servants are shown doing various kinds of work and were placed in the grave.
