Oziris
Egypt; Middle Kingdom; 2040-1640 BC
Part of a statue of a pharaoh as the god Oziris. He is wearing the tall, conical crown of Upper Egypt with the ureaus snake. His body is wrapped in a cloak for the renewal ceremony and he carries the insignia of a king and priest - a sheperd's crook and a flail. Glass encrustation in the eyes and the hairs of an artificial beard once fixed on the chin are missing. The body of this type of statue is shaped like a mummy.
