Archaeological Collection - Ancient Civilizations
The oldest exhibit in the Mimara collection is a Female Idol from the Late Paleolithic. In the development of the Mesopotamian civilization (in the area between the Euphrates and the Tigris) the Sumerians in the mid-4th millenium BC founded city-states and created a style of art which continued to flourish in that region.
The civilization of ancient Egypt (Nile valley) developed a social organization which - from pre-dynastic times until Egypt fell under Roman rule - swung between old and new, which can be seen in its art.
